He didn’t necessarily contradict himself if you really think about it, him pursuing a woman who was was complete opposite of his opinion of how woman should be was smart because no woman after hearing that would want to listen to him, let alone want to be with him but she did. And what’s better than hearing propaganda from a Women’s perspective as a woman? It most likely boosted his ego which meant more than his actual beliefs.
