Explanation:

I assume you want to solve this system of linear equations:

from the first one:

2x + y = 7

.: y = 7 - 2x

substituting this for the y in the second equation:

3x - 2(7 - 2x) = -7

3x - 14 + 4x = -7

7x = 7

x = 1

From before we know that y = 7 - 2x

so now that we know x = 1, we can say y = 7 - 2(1) = 5

So x = 1, y = 5
