Steps to writing an artist statement

First paragraph: Tell the reader why you make art. Support with information about yourself and your goals.

Are you in school?

What do you want to be when you get older?

Second paragraph: Tell the reader how you make decisions about the art you create. How and why do you select materials, techniques, and themes? Keep it simple.

Describe what you like: favorite color, favorite art material, favorite subject.

Where do you get your ideas?

Do you have a favorite subject or artist?

Any other information about you - the artist.

Third paragraph: Tell the reader a little more about your current work. How it grew out of prior work or life experiences.

How have your artistic abilities grown?

This is the paragraph to talk about your choices for the comic strip and characters you have created.

Tip: Use present tense when writing ("I am," not "I was;" "I do," not "I did"). Say nice things about yourself -- brag.

Answer: This can vary a lot but here is one possible answer

Step-by-step explanation:

I am like doing art so I can express myself. When I am upset about something I can put how I am feeling into art as an outlet. When I have a strong opinion or outlook I can share it through my art. When I have an assignment in school for art I think about how I can insert myself into the prompt to make the best artwork I can. Every piece of art I make says something. My goal is be a fashion doll designer and a poet.

When I make art I need to decide two things; what is the point of the art, and what medium am I going to use. Typically for materials I go off of texture, color, and price. My favorite color to use is purple as I relate most to that color. If I am doing OOAK, I find affordable pieces and use them to try and create a person. I want my design to have a clear identity and personality without explanation. When I write poetry, I use my words to clearly express how I feel in a situation or on a particular subject. My favorite subject to write about is my ex best friend.
