"The Horses of King Rhesus": In this chapter, Diomedes and Odysseus sneak into the Trojan camp to steal the horses of King Rhesus, who has recently arrived as an ally of the Trojans. "Funeral Games": Following the funeral of Patroclus, Achilles holds a series of athletic contests in honor of his fallen comrade. The contests include chariot races, boxing matches, and foot races, and are fiercely contested by the Greek warriors. The chapter provides a brief respite from the violence of the war and highlights the camaraderie and sportsmanship of the Greek soldiers.
"Ransom for Hector": In this chapter, King Priam of Troy comes to the Greek camp to ransom the body of his son Hector. He is moved by Achilles' grief and humility, and the two men share a moment of empathy and understanding. Achilles agrees to return Hector's body to Priam, and the chapter ends with the funeral of Hector in Troy.
"The Luck of Troy": The Trojans believe that a wooden statue of Athena, which they have taken from the Greeks, will bring them good luck in the war. However, when they try to bring the statue into the city, it becomes clear that it is too large to fit through the gates. The Trojans interpret this as a sign that the statue is too sacred to be brought inside the walls, and decide to build a new temple for Athena outside the city.
"Warrior Women": In this chapter, the Amazon queen Penthesilea arrives in Troy to fight on the side of the Trojans. She is a skilled warrior and manages to kill several Greek soldiers before she is finally defeated by Achilles. The chapter highlights the presence of women in the world of ancient warfare, and suggests that they were respected and formidable opponents.
"The Death of Achilles": In this chapter, Achilles is killed by an arrow shot by Paris, with the help of the god Apollo. The Greeks mourn the loss of their greatest warrior, and his body is burned on a funeral pyre. The chapter ends with the decision to award Achilles' armor to the Greek warrior who can prove himself the bravest and most skilled.
"Poisoned Arrow": Following the death of Achilles, the Greeks continue the war and manage to capture the Trojan city of Lyrnessus. During the battle, the Greek warrior Philoctetes is bitten by a snake and falls ill. When he recovers, he is given a poisoned arrow by the healer Machaon, which he later uses to kill Paris.
"The Wooden Horse": In this chapter, the Greeks come up with a plan to end the war by building a giant wooden horse and hiding soldiers inside it. The Trojans, believing the horse to be a peace offering from the Greeks, bring it inside the city walls. That night, the Greek soldiers emerge from the horse and open the gates of the city, allowing the Greek army to enter and conquer Troy.
"The Fall of Troy": In this final chapter, the Greeks sack and destroy the city of Troy. The Trojan king Priam is killed, and the city is burned to the ground. The Trojan prince Aeneas manages to escape with a group of survivors, and later becomes the legendary founder of the Roman Empire. The chapter marks the end of the Trojan War and the beginning of a new era in Greek mythology.
