The hi-def largest capacity format for optical discs is the Blu-ray disc (BD).
Blu-ray Disc (BD) is a digital optical disc storage format designed to supersede the DVD format. It was developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) to enable high-definition video (HD) with up to 3840x2160 resolution and high-definition audio on a single disc.
BD offers up to 50 times more capacity than a DVD, with a single-layer BD disc capable of storing 25 GB of data, and a dual-layer BD disc capable of storing 50 GB of data. Up to 128 GB of data can be stored on a quad-layer BD disc. BD discs are read with a blue laser instead of the red laser used for DVDs and CDs, which allows for smaller pits and grooves on the disc, resulting in a higher storage capacity.
