Short Story: Read this passage from a story. Then, answer the question(s).

Tovah hummed to herself as she walked through the village. She smiled to

see the sunlight Sparkling on the bay. For many generations, her family

had lived here. Her father was a fisherman from a long line of fishermen;

her mother taught at Tovah's school. The village was a busy, happy place.

When Tovah stopped humming, however, she realized that a sudden

quietness had fallen upon the village. The villagers had stopped working

and now were looking north, worried expressions on their faces. Tovah

turned to follow their gaze, and she saw the volcano that towered over the

village. A thick gray cloud was rising from its peak. Again? Tovah thought.

This volcano certainly is persistent in trying to scare us!
