When they were done, there would be 2/5 of a gallon of ice cream left.
if they each wanted 3/5 of a gallon they would need 1 4/5 gallons of ice cream.
explanation: 1/5 X 3 = 3/5. 5/5 - 3/5 = 2/5
3/5 x 3 = 9/5 = 1 4/5
