To find the surface area of a cylinder you need to find the area of the 2 circles and the area of the rectangle.

The area of a circle is
\pi ×
r^(2)

So, the area of one circle is
\pi × 36 = 113.097335529...

113.097 × 2 = 226.194

The area of the rectangle is 4 × 2
\pi r ( circumference of the circle is the rectangle's length )

The area of the rectangle is 4 × 12
\pi = 4 × 37.699111... = 150.796444...

Add the area of the rectangle with the area of the 2 circles to get 376.990444...
