Costas and Sheila bought a raffle ticket for a charity. The grand prize is $1000.00. Costa contributed $3.50 and Sheila contributed $1.50 to the price of the ticket. If they win the grand prize, they will share the money in the same proportion that they paid for the ticket. How much of the money should each person receive?

Answer:

Explanation:

$3.50+$1.50=$5.00

So proportion of the price money will be

divided in 3.5/5 and 1.5/5

To make a percentage, first lets multiply our fractions by 10/10

so our new fractions are 35/50 and 15/50.

Now multiply our new fractions by 2

70/100 and 30/100.

So if they win Costa is going to get 70% of the winnings and Sheila is going to get 30% of the winnings.

(1000)/(1)*(70)/(100) = (70000)/(100) = 700

so Costa will get $700

and Sheila will get the rest $1000-$700 = $300
