"Dinner's ready!" Those words, or words wth similar meaning, are used all across

the world. However, the scenes that follow are usually completely different. The
appearance and aroma of the food, people, entertainment, and conversation make
each dinner a different experience.
Write a dinner scene. Briefly set it up in a paragraph or two, and then let dialogue
among the characters continue the plot. Include at least three characters conversing
for no less than three pages, double spaced. There should be a clear beginning,
middle, and end, and the goal is for the reader to be able to picture the scene and
to get to know the characters. Before you begin, brainstorm three
different possibilities, then pick one story line to write.

Answer:

As the sun began to set, the aroma of roasted chicken filled the air. The table was set with a white tablecloth and matching napkins, and a vase of fresh flowers sat in the center. Sarah, a young mother, bustled around the kitchen, putting the finishing touches on the meal. Her husband, Tom, sat at the table, scrolling through his phone.

"Tom, can you please put your phone away? Dinner's ready," Sarah said, placing the chicken on the table.

Tom reluctantly put his phone down and joined Sarah at the table. They were soon joined by their neighbor, Mrs. Johnson.

"Thank you for inviting me over for dinner, Sarah. This smells delicious," Mrs. Johnson said, taking a seat.

Sarah smiled. "Of course, Mrs. Johnson. We're happy to have you."

As they began to eat, the conversation flowed easily. They talked about their day, their families, and their plans for the weekend. Mrs. Johnson regaled them with stories from her youth, and Tom and Sarah listened intently.

As they finished their meal, Sarah brought out a homemade apple pie for dessert. They all took a slice and continued their conversation.

"I have to say, Sarah, this is one of the best meals I've had in a long time," Mrs. Johnson said, taking another bite of pie.

Sarah blushed. "Thank you, Mrs. Johnson. I'm glad you enjoyed it."

As the evening wore on, the conversation turned to more serious topics. They talked about the state of the world, their hopes for the future, and their fears.

"I just want my children to grow up in a world where they feel safe and loved," Sarah said, her voice breaking.

Tom reached over and took her hand. "We'll do everything we can to make that happen."

Mrs. Johnson nodded. "And we'll be here to support you every step of the way."

As the night drew to a close, they hugged each other tightly. It was clear that this dinner had brought them closer together, and they were grateful for the love and support they had found in each other.
