To rent a certain meeting room, a college charges a reservation fee 44$ of and an additional fee of 5.40$ per hour. The chemistry club wants to spend less than $71 on renting the meeting room. What are the possible amounts of time for which they could rent the meeting room? Use t for the number of hours the meeting room is rented, and solve your inequality for t.

I believe the answer is 166.6,

because 44 x 5.40 = 237.6, and if you subtract 71 from 237.6

( 237.6 - 71 = 166.6) you get 166.6

First set up an inequality:

44 + 5.40t < 71

Solve

5.40t < 27

t < 5
