While taking part in a bicycle race, Michael only manages to cycle 4/5 of the way. His father manages to complete 9/11 of the race. Who rode the farthest​

Explanation:

so, the question is, what is bigger : 4/5 or 9/11.

to do this we need to bring both fractions to the same denominator (bottom part).

the least common multiple of 5 and 11 is simply 55.

4/5 = (4/5) × (11/11) = 44/55

9/11 = (9/11) × (5/5) = 45/55

as 45/55 > 44/55, we know now that 9/11 > 4/5, and that the father had therefore traveled the farthest.
