sam wants a wall purple and the mixture says to use 1:3 of blue paint to red paint. if she uses 2 tins of blue paint,how many tins of red paint will she use?

Answer:

6 tins of red paint

Explanation:

blue = 1, red = 3 so:

from 1 to 2 tins of blue, you multiply 1 x 2 = 2 tins. Now we have to multiply by 2 on the other side

So: 3 x 2 = 6 tins of red

In ratios, multiplying or dividing has to be applied to both sides

1 : 3 becomes 2: 6
