Similarities:
1. Both Africa and China were colonized by European powers during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
2. European powers used military force and political manipulation to take control of these territories.
3. Both regions were exploited for their natural resources, including precious metals and minerals.
4. Europeans imposed their own political, economic and social systems on both China and Africa.
5. Colonization had devastating effects on both regions, leading to the loss of land, displacement of people, and the spread of diseases.
Differences:
1. The nature of colonization was different in these regions. In Africa, Europeans established direct control of regions through annexations, while in China, European countries established an informal system of control through economic imperialism, giving privileges and concessions to their own companies.
2. The scale of colonization was much larger in Africa, with almost the entire continent being colonized by European powers, while only a few ports and cities of China were colonized, with the majority of the country remaining an independent nation.
3. The Chinese civilization and culture were considered by the European colonizers as ancient, advanced and sophisticated; while African societies were dismissed as primitive and savage.
4. Resistance against colonization was stronger in Africa, with many wars of independence and resistance movements taking place; while in China, the Boxer Rebellion was the only major uprising against the foreign colonizers.
