At camp, Zero said he was never digging another hole. So, why did he dig another hole on the mountains?

In the novel "Holes" by Louis Sachar, Zero and Stanley climbed the mountain in search of water. When they reached the top, Zero noticed a small hole filled with muddy water. He decided to dig a bigger hole to collect more water so that they could survive. This shows that Zero's statement about never digging another hole was only in reference to the forced labor at Camp Green Lake and not a vow to never dig again under any circumstance.
