You need to cordon off a rectangular crime scene with tape around

the edge to allow investigators to work. The rectangle measures 34
feet by 20 feet.

b. You also need to have the canine unit sniff the scene for drugs. The drug-sniffing dog needs about 6 seconds for each square foot of area. The Canine Unit that was sent to the scene needs to leave in an hour. Will the canine unit be able to complete the task in time?

Answer to b. NO, the dog cannot complete the task in 1 hour.

We know the square feet can be found by multiplying length x width.
34 x 20 = 680 square ft.

We know the dog needs 6 seconds per square foot and needs to be done in 1 hour.

1 hour = 3600 seconds.

3600 seconds / 6 seconds per square ft.
= 600 square ft the dog can cover in 1 hour.

The area is 680 square ft so NO, the dog cannot complete this task in 1 hour.
