Solve the simultaneous equations
5x + y = -5
5x - 3y = 11

You can subtract the two equations from each other, called elimination. Once you subtract, you are with
5x - 5x + y -(-3y) = -5-11
This simplifies to 4y =-16
y=-4.
You can plug this back in to the original equation to get
5x -4 = -5.
5x = -1
x = -1/5.
So,
x = -1/5 and y = -4
