It is metaphase because the chromosomes are in the center and spindle fibers are forming.

this phase of mitosis is referred to as Metaphase

The spindle apparatus (represented by the lines) has completely formed, each spindle fibre is attached to the centromere of the chromosome. The chromosomes are lined up at the centre (equator) of the cell. This is for preparation of separation- prior to the next stages in which it becomes pulled apart.

spindle apparatus- all lines

spindle fibre- an individual line

centromere- the middle of the chromosome

chromsome- repesented as an X in the diagram
