Answer: Prohibition helped to reshape America's social culture because most women and some men thought it was evil that caused some men to become abusive to their wives and children. In addition, they said that men would get paid and then spend their paycheck down at the bar and come home with very little. Prohibition helped reshape American economic culture because making alcohol illegal opened the door for "undesirables" to take over the industry. Organized crime in the 1920s became big business with prohibition. Al Capone made over 50 million dollars alone from prohibition. In addition, the 18th Amendment says that it is illegal to, "manufacture, sell, or distribute intoxicating beverages." The amendment leaves out the consumption of alcohol. Therefore, it was legal to drink alcohol. That is why so many Americans caught drinking were not arrested. When it comes to politics, there was bribery happening everywhere- from police to judges who were taking bribes and letting mobsters and others go when they had been caught making liquor.
