The Royal Titles Act gave leadership to Queen Victoria. The Act was passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom in 1876 and it granted Queen Victoria the title of Empress of India, in recognition of her role as the Empress of India's British Raj. The Act allowed Victoria to use the title of Empress of India and it recognized her as the sovereign of India, although India was still ruled by the British government. Queen Elizabeth II is the current monarch of the United Kingdom, having ascended to the throne in 1952. Queen Anne was the queen of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1702 until 1714. There has not been a Queen Jennifer who has reigned over the United Kingdom.
