We can get this one of two ways. Alternate interior angles are congruent (same measurement)

3x - 16 = 2x + 13 Subtract 2x from both sides

x - 16 = 13 Add 16 to both sides

x = 29

or

The two angles on top are supplemental. That means that they add to 180

3x - 16 + 4x - 7 = 180 Combine like terms

7x - 23 = 180 add 23 to both sides

7x = 203 Divide both sides by 7

x = 29
