Answer:

A 48 pound catfish would be approximately 45 inches long

Explanation:

First find the slope of the line, m, using 2 points on the line, (20, 3) and (25, 12)

m = (12-3) / (25-20) = 9/5

Use the point (30, 21) and slope to find the equation (in point-slope form) of the line:

(y - 21) = 9/5(x - 30) = 9/5x - 270/5 = 9/5x - 54

y = 9/5x - 54 + 21 = 9/5x - 33

y = 9/5x - 33 now you have the equation of the line in y = mx + b form

Find x (catfish length) when y = 48 (catfish weight)

48 = 9/5x - 33

9/5x = 48 + 33 = 81

x = 81 · 5/9 = 45

x = 45 inches
