I believe it’s because they were adding by 5 with each number in the sequence.

Explanation:

if you take 3+_= 8 what goes in the missing spot? 5 would, so we look at the next number and see if it’s a pattern. 13 so 8+_= 13 we know that’s 5 as well. So there’s a pattern of +5 hence why 7 is not part of the sequence.
