Distance covered while flying in north-east direction = 20.0 km

Distance covered while traveling in the east direction = 30.0 km

Distance covered while traveling in the north direction = 10.0 km

According to the figure,

Distance traveling from B to C,

tan 60° = BC / 20

BC = 20√3

Using Pythagoras' theorem,

Distance covered from A to C,

AC² = AB² + BC²

AC² = 40² + (40√3)²

AC² = 1600 + 4800

AC = √6400

AC = 80.0 km

Similarly, the Distance covered from C to E

CE² = CD² + DE²

CE² = 30² + 10²

CE² = 900 + 100

CE = √1000

CE = 10√10 km

Total distance covered from starting point

= 80 + 10√10

= 80 + 30.16

= 110.16 km

An airplane flies 20.0km in a direction of 60° north of east then 30.0km straight-example-1
