A straight line has a gradient of 6 and passes through the point (3,19).

Work out the equation of the line.
Give your answer in the form y=mx+c

y = 6x + 1

Explanation:

the equation of a line in slope- intercept form is

y = mx + c ( m is the slope and c the y- intercept )

here slope ( gradient ) = 6 , then

y = 6x + c ← is the partial equation

to find c substitute (3, 19 ) into the partial equation

19 = 6(3) + c = 18 + c ( subtract 18 from both sides )

1 = c

y = 6x + 1 ← equation of line
