Two yards is equal to six feet, so the pipe was originally six feet long.

To determine the length of the pipe after cutting 18 inches, we need to subtract 18 inches from 6 feet.

First, we need to convert 6 feet to inches:

6 feet x 12 inches/foot = 72 inches

Now we can subtract 18 inches:

72 inches - 18 inches = 54 inches

Finally, we can convert 54 inches back to feet:

54 inches ÷ 12 inches/foot = 4.5 feet

Therefore, the pipe was 4.5 feet long after the plumber cut off 18 inches.
