One aspect of upper-class life that exemplifies cultural and/or social capital is education. A quality education is a form of cultural and social capital that the upper-class in America use to maintain their status and power. The upper-class is well-educated and places a high value on education for their children. This is because a good education is seen as a means of acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in life, but it also serves as a marker of social status.

Upper-class Americans understand the importance of education as it grants them access to prestigious institutions, networks, and connections that can be beneficial to maintaining their status and power, as well as opening up more opportunities for themselves and their families. Good education also provides individuals with the skills necessary to attain high-paying jobs, so there is an economic incentive to obtaining the best education possible.

Furthermore, education creates a cultural capital for the upper-class by connecting people to cultural institutions, know-how, and refinement. The cultural aspect of education allows individuals in the upper-class to access and enjoy cultural activities that are not available to the general population. Knowledge of art, music, theater, and other cultural pursuits are often seen as markers of refinement, sophistication, and social status.

In summary, education is an aspect of upper-class life that exemplifies cultural and social capital because it provides individuals with knowledge, skills, and networks that are necessary to maintain social status and gain access to economic and cultural opportunities.
