You are driving in a car and need to drive 300 miles. Your average speed for the first 100 miles is b miles per hour. Your speed

for rest of the trip is c miles per hour.
Write an equation for the total time, T, in hours it took to get to your destination.

Explanation:

speed = distance/time

so,

distance = speed × time

and

time = distance / speed = distance / distance/time

therefore,

T = 100/b + 200/c

as we have first 100 miles with the speed b, and the rest of the 300 miles trip is 300-100 = 200 miles with the speed c.
