A software company started with 2 people. In six months, the company had a total of 7 employees. The company continued to grow at this steady rate.

-Write an equation (in slope intercept form) that models the relationship between the number of employees (e) and the number of months(m)

-Use the equation to solve for how many employees the company will have in 5 years.

Equation:

"y = 7/6x + 2" or "e = 7/6m +2"

Answer:

72 employees

Explanation:

we know the y-intercept is '2' because the number of employees at the start of the company doesn't change. In six months the company had 7 employees. so the rate of change multiplied by the amount of months plus the the constant is going to equal 7 ---> 7 = r(6) +2... so when you subtract 2 from both sides and divide both sides by 6 you get the rate ---> r = 7/6.

So the equation is y = 7/6x + 2 or e = 7/6m +2

5 years in months is 5(12) which equals 60. Plug 60 into the "x/m" variable and you get e = 7/6(60) +2 ---> e = 72 employees
