Answer: x = 2 and y = - 4 or (2,-4)

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Subtract the x from both sides of the equation
  • Now you have y = - x - 2
  • plug in - x - 2 into the other equation
  • Now you have y = 5x - 3 ( - x - 2) = 22
  • simplify that to 5x + 3x + 6 = 22
  • simplify that to 8x = 16
  • Now x = 2
  • plug in x as 2 into y + x = -2
  • Now y + 2 = -2
  • Subtract the 2 from both sides of the equation
  • Now you have y = - 4
