Answer:

(x -3)(x + 2)

Explanation:

Factorize by splitting the middle term:

x² - x - 6

Sum = - 1

Product = -6

Factors = (-3) , 2

When we add the factors (-3) and 2, we get (-1) and when we multiply the factors (-3) * 2, we get (-6).

Rewrite the middle term using the factors,

x² - x - 6 = x² - 3x + 2x - 6

Take out the common term 'x' from the first and second terms & also take out the common term 2 from the third and fourth term.

= x(x - 3) + 2(x - 3)

= (x - 3) (x + 2)
