In chapter 3 of "Night" by Elie Wiesel, the young prisoners in the concentration camp sought to revolt against their captors. However, they did not follow through with their plans. There are several reasons why they did not revolt, including:

  • 1. Fear: The prisoners were constantly living in fear of punishment, torture, and death. They were weak, malnourished, and traumatized, and they did not have the strength or courage to stand up to their oppressors.
  • 2. Lack of resources: The prisoners did not have access to weapons or any other means of fighting back. They were outnumbered and outmatched by the well-equipped and heavily armed Nazi guards.
  • 3. Lack of support: The prisoners did not have the support of other prisoners or outside allies. They were isolated and cut off from the rest of the world, and they did not have anyone to turn to for help.

What would you feel like as a youth in that situation? As a parent of one of those youth?

  • As a youth in that situation, I can only imagine feeling hopeless, powerless, and terrified. It would be incredibly difficult to maintain any sense of hope or optimism in the face of such extreme adversity. As a parent of one of those youth, I would feel heartbroken and devastated. I would do everything in my power to support my child and keep them alive, but I would also feel helpless and powerless in the face of such overwhelming oppression.

Do you think it would make a difference? Why?

  • I do not think that it would necessarily make a difference if the youth had parental support or not. The conditions in the concentration camps were so extreme and inhumane that it would be difficult for anyone to resist or fight back. However, having parental support could provide some emotional and psychological comfort and could help the youth to hold on to some sense of hope and humanity in the face of such extreme suffering.
