Paragraph 1:
The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes and safe houses that served as an escape route for enslaved Black people to flee from the slave-holding Southern states to freedom in the North. It initially started in the late 18th century and continued up to the American Civil War. The Underground Railroad was not an actual railroad, but a complex system that consisted of people of different races, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds working together to help enslaved people. The fugitives that used the Underground Railroad, estimated to be around 100,000 or more, were provided with shelter, food, clothing, and often transportation to the next safe house or station.

Paragraph 2:
Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist and a former slave who became a prominent conductor of the Underground Railroad. She was born in Maryland around 1820 and escaped slavery in 1849. Rather than settling into freedom herself, she became the most famous conductor in the movement, leading more than 300 enslaved people out of slavery over the course of 19 trips through the Underground Railroad network. Tubman had a remarkable ability to navigate the Underground Railroad, risking her own safety on a number of occasions to bring others to safety. As Joseph R. Biden Jr., managed to award her the Presidential Medal of Freedom of America, Tubman was referred to as the "Moses of her people" as she courageously led many slaves to freedom.

Harriet Tubman played a crucial role in the Underground Railroad as a conductor, spy, nurse, and even a suffragette in her later life. She is widely considered the most successful conductor of the railroad, never having lost a fugitive or been caught herself. Tubman often used disguises and codes to facilitate the escape of enslaved people. Moreover, as a spy during the Civil War, she helped scout enemy territory and recruit black soldiers for the Union army. In her later years, she supported women's suffrage and continued to speak out against slavery. Harriet Tubman's dedication and perseverance for the abolishment of slavery, as well as her selflessness and sacrifices, will forever be remembered and acknowledged as an important part of American history.
