During the Battle of the Somme in November of 1918 the allied powers of Britain, France, and Germany defeated the axis power of Germany, and since they lost, Germany had to pay reparations to the allied forces. In order to deal with their large debts, Germany decided to print money, which resulted in the value of the Mark dropping quickly as a result of the printing of money. The result of this was that people were unable to feed themselves, and at the same time, the value of their bank accounts decreased significantly. It was at this point when Hitler and the Nazi party started appearing promising Germans that they would return the country to its former glory. In addition, Hitler offered Jews as scapegoats.

Despite the fact that many do not believe Hitler was elected in 1932, the Nazis formed a coalition with the Deutschnationale Volkspartei (DNVP) where a Nazi became the Minister of the Interior. Then in 1933 in reelections Hitler won however many historians believe the election was staged.

When the allied forces won WWI despite Wilson's unwillingness to require extensive reparations from Germany the leaders of England and France wanted Germany to pay 33 billion US dollars. As I explained above, this plunged Germany into a depression which contributed to the election of Hitler and the Nazis in 1933.
