Communities can take several types of mitigation measures to reduce the damage and impact of landslides. Some of the measures include:-
1. Providing advance notice of landslide occurrence: Early warning systems can provide people with advance notice of potential landslides, allowing them to evacuate and relocate to safer areas. Sensors, alarms, and monitoring systems that detect changes in soil moisture
2. Locating landslide-prone areas: Geological studies and surveys can help to identify and map landslide-prone areas so that preventive measures can be implemented.
3. Diversion of surface water away from landslide-prone areas can help reduce the risk of landslides. This can be accomplished by building drainage systems or installing erosion control measures.
4. Buffer zone: a buffer zone is a piece of land that helps to protect the environment. Planting trees or building retaining walls can help to stabilize the soil and prevent erosion.
5. Ensure to build the building with the appropriate materials that hold the foundation strongly and hence avoid any effects of land sliding.
6. Through education we can spread awareness regarding do's and don't and best practices that one should do during landslides.
