A bag contains pink, yellow, and green marbles. The probability of randomly selecting a pink marble is 2/5. The probability of randomly selecting a yellow marble is 1/3.

Which statement is true?

A. Pink is the least likely colored marble to be randomly selected.

B. Yellow is the least likely colored marble to be randomly selected.

C. Green is the least likely colored marble to be randomly selected.

D. There is not enough information to determine which is least likely to be randomly selected.

(I chose D because I felt like 2/5 and 1/3 wasn't enough to know which statement was true and I'm just checking if I'm right or wrong about it)

Answer:

C. Green is the least likely colored marble to be randomly selected.

Explanation:

We have to find the common denominator to calculate the possible outcomes:

1/3 = 5/15

2/5 = 6/15

5/15+6/15= 11/15

So there are 15 possible outcomes because the denominator is 15.

15/15 - 11/15 = 4/15

So, in conclusion, green is the least likely color marble to be selected because Yellow has a 33% chance. Pink has a 40% chance. Green has a 27% chance.

Hope this helped

Answer:

it would be C

Explanation:

there are only 3 possible outcomes, green, pink, or yellow. you first would want to find the common denominator between 1/3 and 2/5. using the big one method (where you are to multiply both the numerator and denominator by a fraction that has the same numerator and denominator ie 3/3 or 17/17 & so on) in the 2/5's case you would use 3/3 getting you to 6/15 -stay with me here- and in the 1/3's case you would use a 5/5, getting you to 5/15. now it's going to be easier to find the last possiblity for green, 6/15+5/15=11/15, 15-11=4. leaving green with the possible outcome of 4/15 which is less than the yellow (5/15) and the pink (6/15)
