My teacher taught me you start by switching the + and - symbol to make it- (-6) - (+5)=?

So then you are just subtracting -5 and and +6 but when you subtract a negative integer by a positive integer it keeps going down, so -6 - (+5) would equal -11. Imagine it like adding positives then add the negative later.
