you take both of the 5s and square them.

So 5*5=25 and 5*5 is 25. Since the right angle is opposite the side you are trying to find you add those together to get 50. Then you take the SQRT of 50 because you are trying to solve for x via the pythagorean theorem.

So the exact is SQRT 50

and the approx is 7.07
