Answer: x = 4.5, y = -4.5/3

Explanation:

5x+y = 21 ---- 1

x - 3y = 9 ----- 2

Using Elimination Method, we can solve for x,

Multiply Eq 1 with 3-

15x+3y = 63

(1) + (2)

15x+3y = 63

x - 3y = 9

___________

16x = 72

x = 4.5

Hence, putting x in Eq 2, gives us y = -4.5/3
