Explanation:

Let's change 4:5 to 4x(boys) and 5x(girls).

Since there are 27 students, the equation would be:

4x+5x=27

Then, you simplify the equation:

9x=27

x=3

We are not finished yet!

Since there is 4x boys and 5x girls,

do 4 times 3 which gets you 12 boys

and 5 times 3 which gets you 15 girls.

15 girls minus 12 boys is 3 more girls than boys!
