A deli is trying out new labels for their cylindrical-shaped wheels of cheese. The label covers the entire wheel except the circular top and bottom.

If the wheel has a radius of 22 centimeters and a height of 16 centimeters, how many square centimeters of the wheel does the label cover?

704(pi) square centimeters.

To find the area of the sides of the cylinder, you must find the circumference first for the length.

C = 2(pi)r
C = 2(pi)22
C = 44(pi)

Area for the sides: A = C * h

44(pi) * 16 = 704(pi) square centimeters
