Step 1:

  • Check number of atoms on reactant side and product side

Step 2:

  • Make a table with elements name and their number of product and reactant side as shown in ncert

Step 3:

  • Multiply the numbers with a common multiple to make them same

Lets understand with some examples;


H+O_2= H_2O

Element | Reactant | Product

H | 1 × 4 | 2×2

O | 2 | 1 × 2


4H+O_2= 2H_2O
