Use the method of completing the square to express in vertex form.

Given

y = x^2 - 6x + 11

To complete the square

add/subtract ( half the coefficient of the x- term )² to x² - 6x

y = x^2 + 2(- 3)x + 9 - 9 + 11, then

y = (x - 3)^2 + 2

  • \bold{y= (x - 3)2 + 2}
