We have subtract eqn (ii) from eqn (i). Here we get the equation as,

2y = 26

y = 13 ------(iii)

Put eqn (iii) in eqn (i), we get -

=> x = 31 - 13

=> x = 18

Therefore, their present ages of younger brother & older brother is 13 yrs & 18 yrs respectively.
