Given these two ordered pairs, find the slope by finding the change in y over the change in x:

m = ( 12 - 4 ) / ( -6 - ( -2 )

m = 8 / -4

m = -2

Now that we have the slope, refer to slope intercept form:

y = mx + b

Plug in one of the ordered pairs into their respective x and y value location:

Let’s use (-2,4):

(4) = -2 (-2) + b

Solve for b, the y-intercept:

4 = 4 + b

0 = b

That means the slope of our line that passes through ( -2,4 ) ( -6, 12) is:

y = -2x

Hope this helps!
