A point at (-5,7) is reflected across the x-axis. The new point is then reflected across the y-axis. What ordered pair names the third point?explain.

Answer:

Explanation:

Reflecting a point across the x-axis negates the y-coordinate, so the point (-5, 7) reflected across the x-axis becomes (-5, -7).

Reflecting a point across the y-axis negates the x-coordinate, so the point (-5, -7) reflected across the y-axis becomes (5, -7).

Therefore, the third point is (5, -7).

First, note that to right side of the y-axis, the x-values are positive. To the left of the y-axis, x-values are negative.
Similarly, above the x-axis, y-values are positive, and below the x-axis, y-values are negative.

Starting with (-5,7), this point is located to the left of the y-axis and above the x-axis.

Reflected over the x-axis, the sign of the y-value changes from positive to negative:

7 becomes -7 so the second point is (-5,-7).

Reflect the second point over the y-axis, and the x-value changes from negative to positive:

-5 becomes 5, so the third point is (5,-7)

The third point is (5,-7).

Hope this helps!
