They may contain a love, hate relationship. As many siblings get agitated with one another. First, the narrators brother doesn’t allow him to borrow his jeans. He has a rude attitude towards the narrator when the jeans were asked to be borrowed, but eventually let the narrator have the jeans once it no longer fit him. What we see in this passage is a normalized, but rude interaction with the narrator and brother since the brother said it with a “bite and growl.” It shows the mood of their interaction. It’s not a friendly one either.
