Answer:

8

Explanation:

Let x = width.

Let y = length.

xy = 46

y = 2x - 3

x(2x - 3) = 46

2x² - 3x - 46 = 0

x = (-b \pm √(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)

x = (-(-3) \pm √((-3)^2 - 4(2)(-46)))/(2(2))

x = (3 \pm √(9 + 368))/(4)

x = (3 \pm √(377))/(4)

x = (3 + √(377))/(4) or
x = (3 - √(377))/(4)

x = 5.6041... or x = -4.1041...

A width cannot be negative, so we discard -4.1041...

The width is approximately 5.6

y = 46/x = 46/5.6041...

y = 8.2
