Using Jane Yolen’s instructions, brainstorm and create a myth of your own. Your myth should be at least FIVE paragraphs long and must be a nature myth, but you can choose any phenomenon you would like the myth to explain. This could cover age-old phenomenon, such as what causes changes in the weather or explaining the day/night cycle, or you could tell a myth more related to hard-to-explain natural phenomenon in our modern world: perhaps explaining why socks disappear in the laundry or why drawers full of cooking utensils always get jammed shut!

Step-by-step explanation:

In the beginning, the world was a dark and quiet place. All of the creatures of the earth slept soundly, dreaming of the wonders that were yet to come. But then, a faint rumble started to grow in the distance, like the beating of a giant drum. It was the sound of the first earthquake, a force that would shape the world in ways no one could imagine.

The creatures of the earth woke up in a panic, not knowing what was happening. They ran to the highest mountains and the deepest valleys, searching for safety. But as they looked around, they saw that the world was changing. The mountains were rising higher and higher, and the valleys were sinking lower and lower. The earth was splitting apart, and the creatures were afraid that it would never be the same again.

As the earthquakes continued, the creatures began to notice something strange happening. Whenever the ground shook, small, glowing stones would appear in the cracks and crevices. They were beautiful, shining with a soft, golden light, and the creatures marveled at them. They began to gather the stones and carry them with them wherever they went.

Over time, the creatures realized that the stones had a special power. When they held them, they felt calm and strong, like they could face any challenge that came their way. They called the stones "earth tears," for they believed that they were the tears of the earth, shed in sorrow for the earthquakes that shook it so.

As the years passed, the earthquakes became less frequent, and the creatures of the earth grew to love the earth tears more and more. They used them to light their homes and to heal their wounds, and they never forgot the power that they held. And so, even to this day, whenever the earth shakes, the creatures of the earth remember the power of the earth tears and the strength that they bring
