Please help me on this question ASAP, Tyrone said that 2.35 x 5 equals 1.175 because there is only one digit before the decimal point in 2.35, so there must be one digit before the decimal point in the product. Use pictures, numbers, or words to explain whether or not Tyrone is correct.

Answer:

The reason why Tyrone is incorrect is that when multiplying decimals you move the decimal point by the number of places after the decimal point. In the number 2.35, there are two decimal places after the decimal point so you would move the decimal point by 2 spaces to the left. Another reason why Tyrone is incorrect because you are multiplying a whole number by a decimal. When you multiply a whole number by a decimal the new number will be greater than the factors as long as the number multiplied is greater than one.
